Moving with The Tao: Chinese Philosophy, Qigong, and Innisfree

Saturday, July 12       10:30 am -12:30 pm

This workshop aims to provide visitors with an embodied experience of the Tao’s animating life force and a new understanding of this twentieth century American garden. We’ll move through the garden together, pausing to explore key sites and ideas through a series of experiences carefully selected to relate to the location and each other.  Each stop will include:

  • Readings from the Tao Te Ching: Poetic, wise, and insightful passages from the foundational text of Taoism, offering timeless reflections on how to live in harmony with the Tao.

  • Qigong Movements: Gentle, flowing movements led by movement therapist Cris Caivano to help attune body and breath to nature’s rhythms and circulate qi, or life energy.

  • Garden Reflections: Insights from Innisfree curator Kate Kerin on how Chinese ideas influenced this garden’s integrated approach to design and maintenance which is rooted in nature’s harmony, balance, and renewal.

This all-ages program is beginner-friendly. To allow for easy movement, please wear comfortable shoes and clothing; we’ll walk ½ way around the lake.
