Qigong Class Schedule: October 5 - 11, 2026
Spreading the word
Three fearless early adopters of Qigong :~)
Have you run into this problem? You love Qigong, and want to tell everyone you know how wonderful it is and how it has changed your life. But when you try to tell them about it, their eyes glaze over, or they get a slightly panicked look. It can be so frustrating!
My new student Jim reminded me of this. Jim attended the “Qigong for Autumn” class yesterday at Innisfree Gardens. Afterwards, he said “Why doesn’t everybody do this? It’s so great! It works your joints, you get a good workout and stretch, it’s easy and it’s fun. I want my whole rowing team to start doing Qigong! Maybe the name scares them off, it sounds too weird or foreign.”
Yoga used to sound weird and foreign, too. Then, over the 90’s and oughts, it became super popular and part of many sports and fitness facilities. I believe we’re on the cusp of something similar happening with Qigong. Personally, after a lifetime of doing everything from classical dance to TRX, I have settled on Qigong as the best fitness and well-being method to practice and to teach.
Here are some of the reasons:
1) It covers all the bases. It’s well-balanced and integrated from a kinesthetic point of view, meaning what we do and learn in Qigong permeates and enhances our entire being, from our physical fitness, to our immune system, to our stress management skills.
2) Qigong is easy to learn! You just follow along as the movements are described and demonstrated. You don’t need previous skills, or flexibility, or even much coordination, really, because everything we do is relaxed, unforced, easily adjustable to your own needs and idiosyncrasies. Exercises are repeated enough times to get into the swing of things, with no competitive pressure to advance faster than you want.
3) Energy is all around us in nature, ready to be tapped into. Until you take a class, you may not realize how easy it is to do this. Maybe that’s the part that sounds weird and woo woo, but it’s very practical. And free. And always available.
4) Qigong is preventative medicine, promoting health by teaching us how to transform stress into vitality and a grounded, clear perspective.
5) It’s fun! And you can wear anything that’s comfortable, no tight clothing required.
Everyone agrees it’s much better to feel relaxed and full of energy. And who doesn’t want less stress? So, let’s all spread the word! Bring a friend to a class. Remember, all my Zoom classes are free; donations much appreciated but not required. All that’s truly required to get the benefits of Qigong, is an open mind.
