Happy Autumn Solstice, Qi Friends! Today, for a moment, day and night will balance, even as events on Earth continue to feel decidedly out of balance. It’s an excellent time to reflect on the ways Qigong helps build stability, inner power, and the energy to positively influence those around you who may need uplifting or encouragement. (According to Qigong seasonal practices, courage and inspiration are especially responsive to cultivation during Autumn.) Below, I share a post from my teacher Fabrice Piche, who explains this beautifully.
“In ancient China, the emperor was trained as a physician. To govern well, it was considered essential to understand life from both the microcosm (the body) and the macrocosm (Heaven and Earth). The first step is to change ourselves, since this is the only realm we truly control. Through Qigong practice, as our Qì (氣) straightens and flows, we begin to feel its connection with the world around us. The sense of separation diminishes.
Some may say that focusing only on “bettering oneself” is self-centered. But is it? Modern research shows the world is more interconnected than ever. The famous “six degrees of separation” has shrunk to just three or four thanks to technology. Studies also show that an individual can influence, positively or negatively, up to the third degree of connection (a friend of a friend of a friend).
The good news: positivity spreads faster and farther than negativity.
So by focusing on developing your health, clarity, and Qì, you strengthen the signal you radiate. Think of Qi as the wireless network of your nervous system, your broadcast into the world. A strong, balanced Qi field becomes a stabilizing influence for everyone around you.
In the past, monasteries carried this role for society. Today, each of us can take responsibility for radiating this influence. Whether we intend to or not, we affect the people around us. Let’s take this responsibility to heart, cultivate Qi, reconnect with Dao, and help create a stronger, healthier humanity.”
