Improving Vision, Inner and Outer

Having spent time at the optometrists recently, I’m happy it’s turning to spring here in the Northeast. Spring is a great time to work on strengthening and clarifying vision: both our ability to see objects as well as our powers of imagination and visualization. It’s the season associated with the Wood element, which, when healthy and tonified, supports good vision as well as other important qualities such as flexibility, resilience, creativity, and kindness.

This is a very big topic, but here’s something I learned recently: There are a few small but promising studies showing how relaxation and movement techniques from Yoga (and Qigong, we can assume, since the method is similar) bring about measurable improvements in eye fatigue and even visual acuity.

Now, these studies were done on nursing students in their 20’s and 30’s, but why not apply the techniques to ourselves, whatever our ages? Afterall, moving energy is healthier energy, whether in the muscles of our body or our eyes.  I’ll show you a few of these simple and pleasant techniques (it feels great to stretch and then relax the eye muscles!) this week in our Qigong classes. I hope to *see* you there!
